Description
Tassets are an essential part of medieval and Renaissance armor, crafted to protect the upper thigh area without restricting mobility. Typically made from overlapping steel or iron plates, tassets hang from the waist or cuirass and curve around the front and sides of the legs, providing critical defense against sword strikes, arrows, and other battlefield threats.
The design of tassets varies depending on the period and region but generally consists of articulated plates connected by leather straps or rivets, allowing the wearer to move comfortably while maintaining protection. Historically, they were often used by knights and soldiers as part of a full suit of armor.
Today, tassets are favored by historical reenactors, LARP participants, and armor collectors for their authenticity and practicality. They not only enhance the overall protection of a suit of armor but also add an impressive visual element to any medieval or fantasy outfit.
